    Fondazione Fitzcarraldo (www.fitzcarraldo.it/en) is the leading Italian centre on cultural, arts and media management and policies, based in Turin and active worldwide for many years.

    Fitzcarraldo is an operative foundation focused on groundbreaking approaches in planning, research, consulting, training and documentation of activities and projects, at the service of all those who create, practice, take part in, produce, promote and support the arts and culture.

    Fitzcarraldo is actively involved in different cultural networks and pursues a policy of agreements and synergies with local, regional, national and international partners, public as well as private.

    Our work is based on a combination of specific expertise and integrated approach of the two departments: Research and Training, which are supported by a Resource and Documentation Centre and a New media unit.

    The Foundation has been an active member of several cultural networks (EFAH, ENCATC, CIRCLE, RECAP, IETM).

    Fitzcarraldo has a strong tradition of independent research. We carry out studies and consultancies on creativity, artistic-cultural production, cultural consumption, audiences, management of cultural organisations, cultural policies, cultural cooperation, networking.

    The training activities of Fitzcarraldo in the area of “management of cultural organisations” date back to 1993. The training offer ranges from lifelong training to post graduate courses and initial training. The offer is addressed to the regional, national and international market and includes initiatives that the Fitzcarraldo carries out on its own or in partnership with universities in Italy. Europe and in the USA. We train the professionals and the public officials concerned with museums, heritage and performing arts. Among the mains issues covered: cultural management, project development, strategic planning, marketing and fundraising, cultural cooperation and networking, local development strategies…

    Projects on mobility, networking and trans-national cultural cooperation issues :

    - 2009 Cultural cooperation and foundations

    A qualitative survey, updating the research "Cultural cooperation in Europe: what role for foundations?" (2003) and aimed at understanding how the policies of European and non-European foundations concerning transnational cultural cooperation have changed. The survey is carried out in cooperation with NEF - Network of Foundations and the European Foundation Centre.

    - 2008 Mobility Matters - Programmes and Schemes to Support the Mobility of Artists and Cultural Professionals

    Fitzcarraldo took part in the six month study for the European Commission on mobility incentives in the culture/creative sector carried out by the ERICarts Institute.

    - 2005 and 2006 Mobilizing innovation: Dynamics, Causes and Consequences in European Arts and Culture. Collaboration on the research led by ERICarts on the transnational and transregional mobility of artists and cultural operators and on the process of trasferring ideas, works and trends in Europe.

    - 2005 Mobile.Home

    Fondazione Fitzcarraldo was associated partner of the project Mobile.Home funded by the European Commission. Mobile.Home looked at successes and obstacles to the mobility of arts and artists across European borders. Fitzcarraldo collected five artists' and cultural operators' experiences on mobility.

    -2005 Street Arts in Europe

    Collaboration on a research project commissioned by the European Parliament concerning street arts in Europe. We researched together with Association Horslesmurs, Judith Neisse and the University of Bourgogne - Centre of Research on Culture, Museums and the Diffusion of Knowledge (CRCMD) to understand the actual situation of street arts and artists, the value and acknowledgement granted in the various EU countries; international touring of artists and companies was among the issues in focus. The research has provided the EU Parliament with recommendations for the promotion of street creativity and new forms of art.

    2005 - Network Analysis & Evaluation: Toward a Methodology for a Comparative Study

    Proposed methodology for the assessment of cultural networks, drafted on behalf of IETM (Informal European Theatre Meeting).

    - 2003 Cultural Cooperation in Europe: what role for foundations?

    A study -commissioned by NEF – Network of European Foundations for Innovative Cooperation – that outlines the role played by foundations in supporting cultural cooperation in Europe.

    - 2003 Report on the State of the Cultural Cooperation in Europe carried out by INTERARTS (Spain) and EFAH (Belgium) on behalf of the European Commission. It describes and analyses the current situation as well as of future trends of cultural cooperation in Europe supported by European national States and institutions. Fondazione Fitzcarraldo drafted the chapter on Italy.

    - 2000 IETM - Effects of Networking. This study was commissioned by IETM (Informal European Theatre Meeting), a network of over 450 performing arts organisations active in 40 countries. It was the first study of the processes and effects of cultural networking carried out at a European level

    - 2004 - 2006 Fondazione Fitzcarraldo took actively part in the development of the LABforCulture.org the Laboratory of European Cultural Cooperation, a four year project - initiated and led by the European Cultural Foundation – which aimed at becoming the central point of reference for European cultural cooperation. For the portal LabforCulture.org Fitzcarraldo created a section dedicated to case studies on experiences of cultural cooperation from all over Europe.

    * 2006-2008 Foundations and Networks International Workshop. An informal and frank space of debate among foundations active/interested in trans-national cultural cooperation and among such foundations and cultural network representatives. It is an initiative realised together with IETM, IFACCA and Hivos. The first workshop took part in Rio de Janeiro on November 2006. The second one was held in Torino on 16 and 17 November 2007. A third one took place on 2 - 4 October 2008 in Lisbon.
